PMP Certification Exam Changes in 2019

PMI® (Project Management Institute) recently announced that PMP® Exam will change from 16th Dec 2019. What does it mean to the future aspirants and exam takers? What exactly going to happen? What is not going to change? What it means who have already planned to take the exam before Dec 2019? We are attempting to answer these questions which may help some of you.

The Announcement

PMP® Exam Change 2019

In late April 2019, the Project Management Institute (PMI) announced that the PMP®Exam will change on December 16, 2019. The exact nature of the changes will not be known until June 2019 when they release the new PMP Exam Content Outline, which indicates the percentage of questions by domain, the tasks of the project manager by domain, and the knowledge and skills associated with the project manager’s work.

Those taking the updated exam (after December 15) will need to adjust their study to accommodate changes to the exam content outline.

While ProThoughts will be fully equipped to help the participants prepare for the exam post the Dec 2019 and we will introduce the new exam changes, it will be definitely wise to attempt the exam before Dec 2019, as we know the exam pattern and the associated trends.

What to expect in the June 2019 update?

ProThoughts is an exclusive distributor of www.rmcls.com and they are considered experts in the material and content. Experts from ProThoughts and Rita Mulcahy corporation feel the Exam Content Outline might be modified to suit the current exam sensibilities. For example, the outline might state that 24% of the exam questions will relate to Planning.  This is just an example of the kind of information it will contain–we will not know the actual contents of the outline until June.  However as soon as we learn all the details of the changes, we will immediately update our website and begin modifying our workshops to align with the new exam outline.

What is the Exam Content Outline?

The content outline and exam are derived from the role-delineation study of project managers that is performed by PMI about every 4 years. Through this study, PMI gathers and analyzes data describing the role and work of project managers in the workplace.  From the study, PMI creates the Exam Content Outline which provides the underpinnings of the certification exam.  It includes the percentage of questions by domain, the tasks of the project manager by domain, and the knowledge and skills associated with the project manager’s work.  This is designed to keep the PMP exam consistent with the roles and responsibilities of project managers in the workplace.

Important Dates to Remember

Here are the important dates to remember. PMI has announced that a new PMP Exam Content Outline will be released sometime in June of 2019. The PMP exam will change on December 16, 2019. As a R.E.P (Registered Education Provider) – Global REP Id 4032 for PMI, we strive to provide early analysis of updates.

Last Content Outline Change

The last time PMI conducted a role delineation study that resulted in an exam change was 2015.  At that time PMI estimated that approximately 25% of the exam content changed as the result of the study.

What should I do in the next 8 months till Dec 2019?
